Book nonstop flights from Portland to Pendleton, or book flights connecting to Pendleton from a partner carrier airport. Dig up your hat and boots and fly to Eastern Oregon in under 90 minutes.
Pendleton is where you go to experience the “Real West” and its cowboy-country flavor makes it a unique destination for any visitor. Stroll down Main Street and pick up a pair of cowboy/girl boots before you head over to Hamley’s, where you’ll find a world famous saddle and gift shop, coffee shop and rustic restaurant. In September, make a special trip for the Pendleton Round-Up rodeo and Happy Canyon show; Pendleton is booming during Round-Up week, when the streets of Pendleton are bursting with vendors, street food, parades, shows and activities. Just outside of Pendleton is the Wildhorse Resort and Casino, where you can stay, eat and play for days. Or, if you’re in the mood to venture out a bit further, consider a day trip to Walla Walla, WA for wine tasting or a longer drive to Wallowa Lake for a three-day weekend.
It’s not unusual to see a cowboy or cowgirl hat (or five) while in Pendleton. If you can’t make it for the Pendleton Round-Up to experience the “cowboy culture”, then planning your own weekend of western fun is the next best thing. Check out the Round-Up grounds, where all the excitement takes place, before walking through the Round-Up and Happy Canyon Hall of Fame across the street. Schedule a tour at the historic Pendleton Underground Tours, and walk down Main Street to shop for all of your rodeo wear before proceeding to Hamley’s for a nice dinner. Yee-haw!
The Pendleton Woolen Mills has been weaving quality woolens for over 100 years, and distribute their products worldwide. Visit one of the original mills in Pendleton, which stands on the original foundation but now employs state-of-the-art technology. The mill offers free tours for visitors, where you can learn about the Pendleton weaving process, and also features a store with blankets, fabrics and clothing for sale.
Pendleton has everything from cafes to steakhouses, and many are locally owned and operated. Whether you’re looking for your morning latte, a delicious crepe for lunch or steak dinner, visitors have excellent choices like the Pendleton Coffee Bean or Buckin’ Bean Cafe, Sisters Café, Great Pacific Wine and Coffee Co., Virgil’s at Cimmiyotti’s and more. In the evenings, The Prodigal Son Brewery and Pub has house-brewed beers and pub food served in a historic building in downtown Pendleton. Just 20 minutes outside of Pendleton is Wildhorse Resort and Casino, with several restaurants including the delicious Plateau, and 45 minutes from Pendleton you can find yourself wine tasting in Walla Walla, WA.
